The Pleasure of Discovery film program highlights Barbara Hammer’s work with a special concentration on her films of the 1980s. Focusing on Hammer’s shift away from social realism in the 1970s toward more abstract methods of filmmaking, the program highlights the ways in which her concerns with the depiction of lesbian desire remained static in the midst of experimentations with light, color, material, and form.
The screening, there will be a discussion with Natascha Frankenberg, a media studies scholar,
curator, and queer cinema specialist.
