Camerawoman was performed in Copenhagen’s Glyptotek Museum, July 14 & 15, 1980 as part of the International Womens’ Artists performance series. On July 14 the performance took place on the streets of Copenhagen, and at the Glyptotek Museum on July 15.
It was also performed daily at the Performance Gallery in San Francisco, California, December 11-14, 1980.
Of the performance Hammer wrote:
“The camera can take emotional portraits. I blindfold myself and reach for a subject describing my feelings while touching and exploring without seeing the person. Then I take a Polaroid snapshot capturing what can‘t be seen with the eyes.”
