Barbara Hammer, Vital Signs (1990)

A free workshop focusing on Barbara Hammer’s life and filmmaking will be taking place at Cinema Le Gyptis in Marseille, FR on November 22, 2025 at 6pm!

The Barbara Hammer Workshop will feature a screening of Hammer’s films “Dyketactics” (1974), “Double Strength” (1978), and “Vital Signs” (1990), along with an introduction by Tahin Demiral. This workshop offers an opportunity for the public to engage in film analysis to better understand the historical, political, and aesthetic contexts surrounding Hammer’s work as a pioneer of queer experimental cinema.

The Barbara Hammer Workshop was made possible through a partnership between Cinéma le Gyptis and Videodrome 2, initiated by a proposal from Laurine Labourier, with support from the LIG (Feminist and Lesbian Endowment Fund).
