Kino im Blauen Salon
Karlsruhe, Germany
Kino im Blauen Salon will kick off their new format, the Nachtwache, with a hefty dose of experimentation! It’s the weekend, it will be immersive; standing at the beginning, then walking, then prancing and finally dancing through the cinema, hall and lobby if the concept works: Because: The door of the Blue Salon remains open, outside and inside blur, there are drinks and music in the foyer and atrium of the HfG. It goes from our favorite bartender to our favorite DJ and from there in front of our favorite screen, where a roll of experimental short films runs in a loop all night. The films pick up the mood of the evening, set it, reinforce it, break it, you decide, dancing through the HfG by night.\
Among other things, the following will be shown:
Place Mattes (1987), Barbara Hammer, USA, 8 min, 16mm
Tango (1981), Zbigniew Rybczyński, Poland, 8 min, 35mm
Jüm-Jüm (1967), Werner Nekes and Dore O., BRD, 9 min, 16mm
Kustom Kar Commandos (1965), Kenneth Anger, USA, 3 min, 16mm

More about the film series in the winter semester 2024/25:
Welcome to our new series CINEMA OF COLOURS , in which we dedicate ten films to the fascinating phenomenon of colour in cinema: how does it come about, how does it work, what does it say…? After all, apart from time, there is probably nothing more essential than light and colour, which feed our lives and our projectors. While black and white dominated early cinema for decades, the introduction of Technicolor in the 1930s ushered in a new era for our viewing habits: colour is deeply embedded in our memories as an emotion. Who could forget the girl’s coat in SCHINDLER’S LIST? Why can you recognise a Wes Anderson film immediately by its appearance, and what colour is the MATRIX again?
Our program stretches like a rainbow over the entire winter semester and shows that the Blue Salon is not resting on its monochrome reputation. Come along and immerse yourself in a colorful palette of classics and rarities from the international cinema landscape: 10 films from a variety of genres from 10 different production countries and 10 decades will chase the gray season from your eyes and hearts!
