June 20-26, 2022
Hambis Printmaking Municipal Museum
Nicosia, Cyprus
The Festival “Images and Views of Alternative Cinema”, the annual celebration of the pioneering cinema in our country and the favorite institution of those who are passionate about alternative cinema, returns this summer, between 20 and 26 June 2022, in its hospitable, inner courtyard Municipal Museum of Engraving Hampi in old Nicosia (next to the Famagusta Gate).
The Festival is an initiative of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth in collaboration with the non-profit organization Brave New Culture.
Dedicated to prominent creators, the Festival “Images and Views of Alternative Cinema” focuses its attention on a different cinema, with a strong experimental and temperamental element, in a cinema that observes, interacts and leads the wider cinematic language into a non-cinematic language.
Visioning the Invisible: Barbara Hammer’s Queer Look
Over a period of five decades, Barbara Hammer has managed to “forge” an innovative set of subversive, yet highly targeted, experimental works that laid the foundations of queer cinema. Constantly experimenting with a variety of cinematic forms and genres, Barbara Hammer, through her pioneering videos and films, combines creativity and radical feminism, composing a tangible tapestry of lesbian bodies and stories. Shortly after her death in 2019, the Festival presents a mini retrospective that glorifies its vision for cinema.
