Death of a Marriage (1969) and X (1973) by Barbara Hammer will be featured in Requiem, an exhibition curated by Anya Harrison at Galerie nächst St. Stephan Rosemarie Schwarzwälder in Vienna, AT, opening September 11, 2026!

Requiem is a part of the annual Curated By festival, where 24 Vienna-based galleries invite international curators to respond to a yearly changing theme in the form of an exhibition. For the 2026 edition, selected curators will present unique reflections on the theme of “LOVE”. 

Based on Anna Akhmatova’s series of poems written in 1940 and published in 1987, Requiem explores not only love but also the feelings of loss, fear, and grief that it can inspire. Bringing together works by Adam Christensen, Penny Goring, Barbara Hammer, and Mel Odom, the exhibition foregrounds the risks that one is willing to take in pursuit of a radical love that exists beyond traditional institutions.
