Barbara Hammer, “Sanctus” (1990)

Barbara Hammer’s film, “Sanctus” (1990) will be exhibited in “Strip to the bones,” curated by Clément Caballero, at Galerie Derouillon from September 10th to October 4th, 2025!

“Strip to the bones” situates “Sanctus” alongside abstract paintings on canvas and studded paper by Margaux Meyer. Inspired by the writings of Georges Bataille, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and Iris Marion Young, “Strip to the bones” emphasizes the internal experiences of the female body and the ways in which reclaiming personal experience is central to emancipation. The exhibition rejects classical representation, seeking instead to deconstruct androcentric fantasy-images of the female body.
