The Barbara Hammer Estate under the direction of Florrie Burke (Executor and Art Administrator of the Estate) is pleased to announce its newly appointed Executive Director: Louky Keijsers Koning, in the debut role. Louky comes with over 20 years of experience in the art world where she donned roles such as curator, gallery owner and, for the last few years, art appraiser.
Louky carries two masters, one in art history with a focus on performance art and film and the other in arts management. After being active as an independent curator for a couple of years, she founded in 2005 LMAKprojects (later renamed to LMAKgallery) which she ran for almost 15 years showcasing and representing an international roster and placing many works in museums worldwide. The last five years she focused on appraising art, in particular performance, experimental and conceptual art.
Her role at the estate emerged from the importance of Barbara Hammer’s legacy and assuring its presence and preservation within the cultural fabric of the art world. Louky’s responsibility will be to foster and enhance Barbara’s vision and to do so with the same rigor and joy as Barbara had in inspiring others from the LGBTQ community and beyond.
Louky is committed to fulfill this mission and is excited to work in collaboration with Barbara’s galleries; KOW (Berlin) and Company (NYC). She is looking forward to Company’s third solo exhibition curated by Tiona Nekkia McClodden. The exhibition will focus on Hammer’s creative thinking and artistic process. This overview gives an opportunity to present works never shown before and shed a light on some of Barbara’s most emotional and evocative moments within her practice. The exhibition is slated to open in early October and will be the inauguration of Company’s new gallery space on Elizabeth Street.
Louky lives with her art dealer spouse, Bart, their two girls, as well as their dog and two cats. You can reach out to her at louky@barbarahammer.com.
